Songs of Motherhood - Għanjiet l-Omm is more than the sum of its poems, illustrations or stories. It’s an emotional ride through the million facets of motherhood, it’s laying bare what we often don’t see, and it makes tangible what many do not touch in their lives. Every time a page is turned, we’re left feeling that a tiny gap in our hearts has been filled.

Who we are
More than a book, SoM is a group of mothers based locally in Malta. Some of us write poetry or prose, some paint, draw and illustrate. The book merely collects these musings, centred around the theme of motherhood, in a yearly collection.
Every year, the book cover comes lovingly illustrated by Moira Scicluna Zahra, local household name in the publishing world for her beautiful illustrations, and meticulously designed by Sarah Cachia Falzon, renowned for her minimalist aesthetic and focus on typography. The curation of the anthology lies with Roberta Azzopardi, who writes, edits and selects the work to be featured every year. All 3 women are mothers, as is everyone involved in the production of this book.
The contributors come from all walks of life. We have stay at home mums, teachers, lawyers, business owners, marketers, doctors and specialists in the medical field, all united by an underlying motherhood story.
How to Submit
Submission Guidelines
Submissions for 2025 are open
You can submit a maximum of 5 pieces for consideration. This can be a mix of poems, stories, illustrations or photos, or 5 pieces from one category.
You can submit in English or in Maltese
Short stories should not be longer than 3,000 words.
The theme for all pieces is motherhood, from whatever angle feels right to you.
Only Maltese creatives or creatives based in Malta will be eligible.

We have big plans for this anthology, and one of them is to have a yearly book that would form a series made up of writings, drawings, photos and other expressive mediums from mothers on motherhood. Short answer - yes!
