Pretty Shoes

I can wear pretty shoes at the park
not running around after toddlers, yes I can
but a very wistful heart longs to be by your side, perhaps holding your hand, watching your every move
you’re young girls, not too little and not too much older
I naturally joined your tween table for fireside girly chat
yet I know you like your little space a bit more
than you long to hold my hand right now
so I quietly tip toed away
space is good for you, your faces are beaming

I can wear pretty shoes at the park
I can bask in the sun, iced coffee in hand
and sweet nostalgia in my heart
take a moment in my thoughts
not a frazzled mum for a change, I smile
a delicate cacophony of emotions, contentedness, pride, love and joy that you bring

And I will be waiting
your hysterical giggles permeate the air in the park
friendships blossoming in full glory
the sun is shining

As I yearn for the night to fall
the pretty shoes come off
and so does your grown up girl armour
as you look for my hand and my neck to snuggle in
for those cuddles I have a thousand fold infinity of

I love you, my babies
my babies you will be forever
