Goodnight, My Heart

Some nights, I cannot sleep. I toss and turn, and then I toss and turn a little more. My bed feels cold and empty without you by my side. I miss your bedtime giggles and eskimo kisses, your meaty cheeks and curly hair. My eyes are tired and weary, my body sore and heavy.

I cannot sleep.

I toss and turn.

On these nights, I play your favorite lullabies, and your scent from the muslin cloth fills me with hope for tomorrow. I get to see you tomorrow! My eyes feel lighter, and I feel more peaceful now.

"Goodnight, my G," I whisper in the dark. ''You will sleep in my heart tonight''.
